Unity Preparatory Charter School of Brooklyn is a community-based, open-enrollment charter school serving students in grades 6-12. As the Middle School Dean of Culture, you will be entrusted with shaping the character and behavior of our students. Your responsibilities include: Leading and managing school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), ensuring alignment with our disciplinary handbook and guidelines. Setting and achieving annual culture and discipline goals, using data to drive grade-level initiatives and improve behavior management strategies. Overseeing and implementing PBIS in common spaces such as arrival, dismissal, transitions, restrooms, lunch, and special events, ensuring consistency across the school. Supporting, training, and holding teachers accountable for applying PBIS both within and outside the classroom. Collaborating with department chairs and counselors to manage student discipline at Tiers II and III of PBIS, including communication with families and maintaining records. Reporting directly to the Principal to ensure the seamless execution of school-wide culture initiatives. KEY QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the Middle School Dean of Culture role meets the following criteria: At least 2+ years of experience in a similar leadership role, with demonstrated success in managing adults and leading teams. A balance of high expectations, patience, and a genuine joy in working with adolescents. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills in working with students, families, and colleagues. A commitment to professionalism, reliability, and grace under pressure, with strong organizational and time management skills. A collaborative mindset, openness to feedback, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Expertise in managing diverse student populations and supporting equitable outcomes for all students. A solutions-oriented mindset, embracing the challenges and opportunities of a dynamic school environment with enthusiasm and a sense of humor.
